译得比较简单，有的地方可能不太顺。话说我改动了一个地方，我觉得希思克利夫娶伊莎贝拉绝对不是为了伤害凯茜，只是为了折磨林敦罢了。
下面这句话为什么用地点状语“in other countries”，而不用方式状语“by other countries”？
还是有区别的。
在牛津词典中，adopt表示“采纳”的时候，大多是人作adopt的主语：sb. adopt sth. 那么如果是用by的话，则是sth. adopted by sb.
你这句话后面是“其他国家”而非“其他国家的人”（制度明显是国家采纳的），所以用in比较好，in other countries做地点状语。
再者，用by有强调“adopt”这个动作的意思，但是从前面的“has been adopted”完成时时态来看，“采纳”这个动作已经完成了，那后面再用by来强调动作难道不是很奇怪吗？都已经完成的动作还强调有什么意思？(从英文角度看)
